The original, sometimes extravagant designs of his shawls, the studied constructions of his patterns and his innovative perception of color have have helped Stephen West become an internationally recognized and respected designer.
Stephen was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma; moved to Chicago, Illinois for University, and later moved to Amsteram, Netherlands, to study choreography. Stephen’s designs have now been knitted by thousands of knitters all around the world. He now lives in Amsterdam where he co-owns Stephen & Penelope, a yarn boutique in the city center.
In 2019 Stephen and his business partner Malia Mae Joseph realized a long-held dream by launching their first yarn brand, West Wool.
CANAL RING SHAWL
This large semi-circular shawl is inspired by the clean lines and architecture along the beautiful canal rings of Amsterdam. Twisted ribbing increases and decreases along the wingspan, producing scalloped edges. The clean body of the shawl features stockinette and reverse stockinette fabric while intarsia is used to highlight the striped rings throughout the body of the shawl. A final chevron border in twisted ribbing decorates the final shawl shape
